San Remo & Phillip Island Winter Arts Trail – calling for artists and businesses
The San Remo & Phillip Island Tourism & Business Association proudly presents the Winter Arts Trail 2017.
The Winter Arts Trail brings regional art to local businesses and enables visitors and residents the chance to see visual expressions about Bass Coast on display at locations they may never have visited. It gives artists the chance to showcase their work over an eight day period and to sell their work, with a small commission paid to the exhibiting business.
A map of all the businesses is produced and distributed via Visitor Information Centres in Cowes and Newhaven, as well as all participating businesses. There is a competition for visitors and residents to “take the trail” and identify six artworks at specific locations. The prize this year is a stunning mosaic called “Pink Lips” created by local artist, Heather Fahnle from Mosaics by the Bay. (see left)
Currently calling for interested artists residing in Bass Coast Shire region to participate in the Trail and local businesses who are interested in hosting the artworks in return for inclusion on the Winter Arts Trail map, which is distributed from the Cowes and Newhaven Visitor Information Centres.
TESTIMONIAL FROM ROBERT VAN DEN BRINK, CHEEKY GOOSE CAFE
I would like to express my enthusiasm for the winters art trail. We at Cheeky Goose Cafe loved the event last year and were eager to jump on board for 2017. As the 2016 event was finishing we noticed that our unique location would be added benefit to the 2017 Arts Trail to show case more local artist be it print, paint, sculptors etc – a large variety of works can be displayed with in out classic Tudor building.
We wish to work with the organizers to give people more viewing options and see the coming years as people and making there way around the trail to visit our location and have the opportunity to eat, drink and absorb the art works around them set is this classic scene.
Our wish is to work with the organizers to help grow this amazing arts trail, and will continue to offer our location as one of many places for people to experience. Having the Winter Arts Trail during the winter months is a draw card to bring people from Victoria and beyond to Phillip island. How can anyone not support it.
This event has been acknowledged by Tourism Victoria and Destination Phillip Island as a major event held over the Queens birthday weekend and following week, encouraging visitation to Phillip Island during off peak season.
With thanks to our 2017 major sponsor – Langford Jones and supporting sponsor Phillip Island RSL and Phillip Island Nature Parks in conjunction with the Artists Society of Phillip Island
